As well as illustrated articles and interviews, the magazine will include ‘visual’ and ‘sound’ articles.

Visualizations of Energy

Carter Hodgkin fuses art, science and technology to explore a new language of abstraction through paintings, animations and large-scale mosaics. Approaching the modification of code as a drawing tool, she generates atomic particle collisions to create animated forms, which visualize energy. Her working process is an interplay between digital means woven into traditional media with an emphasis on the hand. She utilizes a range of media from animation and programming to drawings, paintings and large-scale mosaics.

From the Quantum to the Infinite

Jody Rasch is a New York City area-based artist whose work is based on themes from astronomy, biology, physics and spectra. The artist has been exhibiting his work nationally for over 25 years. Duality–abstraction and representation, the literal and the metaphorical, science and mysticism, the unseen and the seen–is a predominant theme in Rasch’s work.

“These pieces, based on electron microscopy, particle accelerators, and radio astronomy are an expression of both the patterns of the natural world and the metaphors underlying modern science. They allow us to see the beauty in the repulsive, to find knowledge in the unknown, to observe the unseen to more clearly see our world.”

Cortical

Artist and writer, Richard Bright, has addressed the relationship between art, science and consciousness for over 40 years. He studied Fine Art and Physics before founding The Interalia Centre in 1990. Since then, he has lectured extensively on art and science and written articles on James Turrell, Andy Goldsworthy and Susan Derges, among others. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally and was the recipient of the ‘Visions of Science’ Award, The Edge, Andrew Brownsward Gallery, University of Bath (Second Prize Winner). Co-author of ‘The Art of Science’ (Welbeck Publishers, 2021).

Twilight Language

Shuster + Moseley is the conceptual art studio of Claudia Moseley (b. 1984) and Edward Shuster (b. 1986). The artists create light-mobiles comprised of assemblages of suspended lenses, and sculptural installations of abstracted screens and deconstructed prismic geometries, using glass interfaces to mediate light. Central to the practice is an approach to a language of light, exposure and spectrality, through which the artists synthesise their engagement with the meditative traditions and related cosmologies; an esoteric approach towards space and place, which employs a diagrammatic poetics; and a critical engagement with technoscience.

Interconnections between memory, time and place

Karey Kessler creates map-paintings that contain ideas about physical, spiritual, internal, and temporal spaces.

“My maps tell the story of an ever changing environment, impermanence, and the immensity of time. They tell stories about the interconnected ecosystems of the world that don’t end where one country’s borders end and another’s begins: how both air and water (and therefore pollution), defy borders. The stories include deep time (before humans were on earth) and the eternal things that will remain once we’re gone.”

Lines of Empathy

‘Lines of Empathy’ is a group show brought together by Italian, London-based, artist Giulia Ricci. The title ‘Lines of Empathy’ is a synthesis of the project’s main themes: on one hand the exploration of the process of mark-making while drawing on paper by hand, on the other, empathy as the act of reaching out into someone else’s experience.

Elemental Forms

Nadezda Nikolova is a Croatian-Bulgarian-American photographic artist working with wet plate collodion photograms. Her practice is informed by an experimental approach to early photographic processes and her interest in the image as an object. The abstract landscape series, ‘Elemental Forms’, ‘Landscapes and Elemental Forms’, ‘Landscape Rearticulated’, emerged as the artist’s direct response to her surroundings and to feeling a sense of well-being and security within the landscape. She believes that each locale has its specific identity, history, and emotional imprint.

The Honey Bee Collection

Ava Roth is a Toronto-based encaustic painter, embroiderer and mixed-media artist. For the past decade she has worked almost exclusively with beeswax. Combining techniques from both fine art and crafts, she aims to use natural materials and processes to explore the intersection between human beings and the natural world. Her current collection is an inter-species art collaboration between herself and honey-bees.

Planet of Dreams

Cecelia Chapman is a San Francisco-born artist living in Portugal. Her work revolves around video, essay, storytelling, and works on paper and merges the documentary and experimental. ‘Planet of Dreams 2022’, follows a personal dream journey across continent and through time, observing how dream guides us. Planet of Dreams asks ‘in what ways can the dream state guide us?’
