About John Moat

John Moat was a writer, poet and an artist whose work is a living embodiment of the search for integration and balance. His concern with mythic, Gnostic truths reflects his birthplace – India – yet in his descriptions particularly of landscapes, we see a vivid depiction of rural Devon where he has spent the greater part of his life. In 1968, with John Fairfax, he founded what has become the country’s foremost creative writing centre, Arvon. He has taught creative writing to people of all ages, from university to primary school, alcoholics to children in care. For more than 20 years Moat wrote a column for the leading international ecological magazine, Resurgence. He has written seven novels, ten collections of poetry and a book of short stories.
