About Vasia Hatzi

Vasia Hatzi stands between two different worlds: Science and Art. With a BSc in Genetics(University of Liverpool, UK), an MSc in Applied Genetics (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece) and a PhD in Cytogenetics (Medical School, University of Athens), two scholarships and awards from international scientific conferences, she is continuously exploring the cellular world under the microscope and investigates the mechanisms of chromosomal damage and chemically induced carcinogenesis. Outside the laboratory she passionately explores the intersection of biomedical sciences and arts. Combining her knowledge from the field of Cytogenetics with imagination and aiming to communicate her science through a different path, she created LαB. (www.La-B.gr), a hybrid world that links Biology with Art, where cellular structures of the microcosm are transformed into wearable bio-conceptual creations. Willing to familiarize the general public with biomedical inspired art and connect the biomedical inspired artists from all around the world, Vasia Hatzi created MEDinART (www.medinart.eu): a global art network of artists inspired by Biomedical Sciences. MEDinART has been participated in numerous international events in Greece, Europe and USA. Vasia Hatzi is a Collaborate Researcher in NCSR “Demokritos”, Athens, Greece and member of ERRS (European Radiation Research Society), BIOMAB (Biological and Medical Art Organization in Belgium). Her artwork is featured by Fabrica Vitae, the International touring Exhibition inspired by anatomy and has been included in International exhibitions in Greece, Belgium and Denmark, as well as Atlanta and Saint Louis, USA.

Vasia Hatzi, PhD Geneticist, MEDinART Creator and Founder, stands between two different worlds: Science and Art. MEDinART

MEDinART is a global destination for artists that communicate through their art aspects of biomedical sciences. Its main goal is to introduce bio-medical inspired art to the broader audience, bring together med-inspired artists, highlight biomedical issues through different forms of art, educate the general public and trigger scientists to communicate their research fields using creative and innovative ways. Vasia Hatzi stands between two different worlds: Science and Art. Ιn 2012, Vasia created LaΒ., a hybrid world of Science and Art, as a child with two equally developed brain hemispheres. In the world of LaB., typical biological structures are transformed into unique bio-conceptual creations. Basic functions of life return to their primitive form.
