Betty Zhang is an interaction designer and interdisciplinary artist creating sensory experiences that are immersive and interactive in both digital and non-digital media. Currently, she is exploring wearable technology, gestural interactions, biofeedback, and sound installations. Her work deals mainly with the body as a multi-functioning interface and performative medium. In London UK, She exhibited an immersive installation at Tate Modern questioning the boundaries between personal spaces as well as a transforming dress, which was worn in a performance involving projection arts at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre. She has also exhibited at the Ars Electronica Festival in 2017 and galleries in Canada. Recently, she completed an MA Interaction Design Communication at the University of Arts London, and  Prior, she studied illustration at OCAD University and abroad in Florence, Italy. She has been working as a designer and exhibiting mixed-media artwork, installations, and performances since 2012. Her work includes digital and non-digital realms. She participated in 2 previous years at Nuit Blanche Toronto as a performer and installation artist.

“I observe how human interactions happen and how the body moves through space, the motion and gestures associated with different activity. I also question why we move the way we do and how may we change those habits. In addition, I am extremely interested in how these natural interactions are effected by digital technology and artificial futures.”
