About Audrey Rangel Aguirre

Audrey Rangel Aguirre is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art and science, recently completed a Master in Art & Science at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Class 2021. Born in Mexico City, Mexico. Currently based in the UK, Holds a BA on Fine Arts at the Accademia Di Belle Arti di Firenze (Florence, Italy) specifically Sculpture. Also studied visual arts in Mexico's National University. Has participated in exhibitions in Italy and England. Her research investigates the study of energy from artistic, philosophical, and technological point of view. Currently exploring the biological realm through visualization of microscopic images and research on microecosystems and microbiology through the lens of artistic intuition. As an artist she had the opportunity to learn and take inspiration from the research about energy harvesting technology and heart diseases from scientist Wataru Hijikata from Tokyo Institute of Technology. This knowledge was then translated into a research project focused on energy harvesting technology, cells, light, interaction with the human body, philosophy and the intersection between art and science. Other current projects include research on materials as bioplastic and biomatter, chemical compounds and chemical formulas. At the moment working on the ongoing research project “Terras Lux”, that is a speculative research project focusing on new imaginaries related with the energy on microbial ecosystems on soil, and its relationship with the human body. Terras Lux is entering into the microscopic realm to explore possible connections between energy on soil, micro ecosystems and the energy on the human body. Possibilities are enhanced with the use of artistic intuition and intuitive thinking in order to explore a more than human and potential new systems in the future. Currently working in a collaboration with scientist Marta Filipa Simões, Astrobiologist and Microbiologist at State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, Macau University of Science and Technology; Macau, China.

Terras Lux Project

“Consciousness is evoked by a vision of a simultaneous view of the micro scale, the human scale, and the macrocosm. Terras Lux Project is an interdisciplinary ongoing project that enquiries into the biological realm of microbiology, microbiotechnology, astrobiology, physics, and spirituality. Guiding the spectator through photography, installations, projections, sculptures, and research, it proposes the experience of approaching, through art and science, a connection with the energy that unifies microbial ecosystems, energy in the human body and cosmic rays. Wishing to provide a link through speculative systems, with a dimension where spirituality, art and science evolves humanity into civilization and the experience of cosmos.”
